What went well?

  • I am liking my new tactics study plan. Read more about it here
  • Yesterday I did a lot of “chess thinking.” Studying tactics, reviewing master games, and playing a couple of games. By the end of the day my brain hurt a little, but I think that is pretty great that I was able to “exercise” my brain in that way.
  • Watched a number of the world championship games, including the exciting almost-8-hour game 6 (recap).
  • I had a couple of fun blitz games where I won with simple tactics. Even though I have not been doing my tactics study plan that long, maybe it is working. That said, my blitz rating is under 600, so it might be easier to find tactics there.

What could have gone better?

  • The world championship was pretty distracting last week. Only 8 of 14 games are done, but I feel like it is practically over. Maybe I will not need to follow along live.

What will I try next?

  • I am going to try to track my time again (see last time) to see how close I am to my study plan
