Weekly chess retrospective for October 10

What went well?

• I did not play any Blitz games last week! I needed to break my habit cold turkey.
• I’m making good progress on the 3rd Learn Chess the Right Way Chessable book. I’m on the last chapter.
• I wrote up a new study plan for October and a quarterly progress report
• I finished reading The Immortal Game: A History of Chess

What could have gone better?

• I lost about 2/3 of my games last week. My rating is falling too. In general, I am playing too fast. I need to remind myself to slow down and think.
• I lost 85% of my games as black. I think this is normal because I am learning new openings, but I need to keep an eye on it.
• When I am studying books with a board, I need to be more engaged and active in my learning.

What will I try next?

• Log time in SayChess’s accountability group to see where I am spending my time
• Keep studying my new black openings. I can tell they are getting a bit better because I can get through whole lines with no mistakes now. But I’m still losing games. If I want to start winning games, I need some more confidence as black.
