Week 6 Plan

This week I wanted to do a bit of calculation work. But that is a huge topic so where should I even start? What I decided to do was to focus on some very simple things for this round.

The first thing I worked on was hanging piece puzzles from Lichess. This isn’t complex calculation, but being able to spot these is a area for improvement and a foundation for calculation.

The other area I worked on was mate-in-3 puzzles. I tried hard to visualize the entire puzzle in my head before making any moves. This is different from how I typically solve puzzles, a.k.a. the lazy way. Usually I will see a likely move and just make it without doing any calculation. I need to break this habit, but it will be hard.

Next Week

With Christmas and New Years, I am taking a bit of a break for my scheduled plan. I will continue to work on tactics, but I’m going to enjoy the time with family and friends and not worry too much about this study plan.

When I get back I’ll be working on my openings, starting with the new black repertoire I’m trying.
